Local police, businesses, and FSUSD unite to support 15 students to have a strong start to the school year.

Fairfield, CA (August 19, 2025) - Thursday, August 7 marked the third annual Back-to-School Shop with a Cop event in Fairfield — an event that continues to grow each year, bringing joy, connection, and essential school supplies to local youth.

The event is the result of a unique and impactful collaboration between the Fairfield Police Department, Dick’s Sporting Goods and Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD). The special day created an opportunity for 15 FSUSD students, selected by FSUSD’s Student & Family Services Department, to prepare for the new school year in a memorable way.

“This is one of my favorite days of the year,” said Sgt. Sandoval of the Fairfield Police Department. “It’s incredible to watch the smiles, hear the laughter, and see the connections being made. For us, it’s not just about giving students what they need for school — it’s about showing them that their community cares and believes in them.”

Each student was paired with a “shopper” — a member of Fairfield Police Department’s sworn or professional staff — for a personalized back-to-school shopping experience at Dick’s Sporting Goods. The shopping trip included clothing, shoes, backpacks, and school supplies, all generously sponsored by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

“Seeing our students light up as they shop for items they need — and knowing they are building positive relationships with local police officers — makes this event truly special,” said FSUSD Assistant Director of Student & Family Services Jessica Reed. “This is about more than just supplies; it’s about starting the school year with confidence and support.”

The event was also made possible by the generosity of additional sponsors, including Chick-fil-A, whose contributions helped make the day a success.

“Partnerships like this show what can happen when a community comes together to support its youth,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “Every year, we see firsthand how impactful this experience is for both the students and the officers.”

FSUSD extends heartfelt thanks to Dick’s Sporting Goods, the Fairfield Police Department, Chick-fil-A, and all the community partners who made the 2025 Back-to-School Shop with a Cop possible. Thanks to their efforts, 15 local youths were able to step into the school year ready to put their best feet forward.
